The varsity football team continued their winning ways Friday night at “The Armory” with a 21-0 shutout over New Hope Leadership Academy to run their record to 4-0 on the year. Freshman JR Kinard stepped into the quarterback role after Jeff McCallum was injured in practice and scored a rushing touchdown to start the scoring in the first quarter. Sam Burks and Matt Diaz rounded out the scoring in the second half with rushing touchdowns as well. On defense, Junior Gaven Ford was in on 6 tackles and added an interception while sophomore Zack Gebhard was stellar on the defensive line again, chipping in 6 tackles but disrupting many plays and bringing down two ball carriers for tackles for loss. Senior Braeden Patterson had his best game in a Crusader uniform by making 15 total tackles and helping lead the defense to their first-ever 11-man football shutout.
The varsity team will return to action again this Friday night as we host an undefeated Hickory Grove Christian team out of the Charlotte area. Kickoff is at 7:30.
