The Northside football team fought tooth and nail with AA Edisto in varsity football Friday night before falling 44-20. Freshman Jeff McCallum threw for 122 yards and 2 TDs, completing passes to freshmen Jake Jeffrey (2 yard TD), Sam Burks (82 yards and a TD) and Trevor Hoffman (3 for 39 yards). Burks also pitched in 60 yards rushing and a TD on offense and recorded a he interception as well on defense. Gaven Ford pitched in 24 yards rushing and played solid at outside linebacker as well. The player of the game was senior Jacob Spangler. Jacob had 2 tackles for loss and a sack while forcing a fumble and finishing with 6 total tackles. Jacob played probably his best game of the year on offense as well.
Although outmatched physically by a large contingency of juniors and seniors, the Crusaders were competing all the way to the end, scoring twice in the last 6 minutes of the game. The guys continue to work hard and will enter the second half of their season much better than they began. We will return to action Thursday at 7pm against the Calhoun County JV team.
