Middle School Girls Basketball Defeat Orangeburg on the Road

The middle school girls team came away from a tough game in Orangeburg Thursday night with a 41-8 win over a very physical Orangeburg Prep opponent. Leila Spotts set the tone almost immediately, harassing the Lady Indian's star point guard which derailed the entire Lady Indian team. Spotts forced numerous turnovers and pumped in 6 points to propel the Lady Crusaders to a 14 – 2 1st quarter lead. Kendall Murray and Mason Heffron also joined the tough and tumble affair, forcing more turnovers and jump balls which led to a bucket each by top scorer Campbell Childers and Madison Coker. The stellar defense led to the Lady Crusaders taking a 23-4 lead into the half. The Lady Indians then seemed to concede early in the 3rd quarter after Madison Coker grabbed a couple of loose ball rebounds and dropped in 4 more. Heffron then drained a 3-point bomb and Childers complimented with a bucket of her own. By the end of 3 quarters - Lady Crusaders 32, Lady Indians 5. Mary Beth Stafford and Olivia Pantoja played their best basketball of the year in the fourth quarter, harassing their opponent with stingy, tough defense. Stafford found her hot hand and scored her career high with 6 and Pantoja chipped in 2. FINAL - Lady Crusaders 41, Lady Indians 8.
