Crusaders Fall Short in Thrilling 5 Set State Championship Match

In an exciting and well played match between the states top two SCISA AA volleyball teams, the Crusaders fell a set short to the Spartanburg Christian Academy Warriors. In a match where the Crusaders needed their serve receive to be at its best against a power serving team from Spartanburg, the skill was off. Throughout the contest, the Crusaders played with the energy, passion and heart they have shown all season. The rally defense and defense at the net was up to the task leading to points for NCA. However, the poor serve receive led to easy points for the Warriors or to the Crusader attackers having to roll their shots or free ball too many times letting SCA easily get into their offense. After winning sets one and three, the Crusaders were confident going into set five, but the serve receive nemesis bit the Crusaders early in the set allowing the Warriors to get off to a quick start. NCA tried to put together a rally, but could not quite get it going.

Box score: 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 22-25, 5-15.

P’sOTM: SENIORS. Kaitlyn Banks, Emily Colby, Eleanor Fitz, Kailyn Koontz and Lauren Reynolds.
